LineScore (“LineScore,” “we,” “us”) is a golf-scoring app for tracking rounds, leagues, and friendly games. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. We keep it short and plain because the app collects little.
Information we collect
- Account info — your email address (used to sign in), the display name you choose, and your golf handicap.
- Your golf activity — scores, rounds, statistics, the events you register for, the communities you join, and any messages you post to a community board.
- Payment handles you choose to add — if you volunteer to collect money for your group, you can save a Cash App $cashtag or a Zelle handle to your profile so the group knows where to send it. A Zelle handle is usually a phone number or an email address. These are stored on your profile and shown to members of your communities. They are optional, and you can clear them at any time.
- Location, in two different ways. When you use “Find courses near me,” your device’s approximate location is used once to look up nearby courses and is not stored by us. Separately, if you turn on distance-to-green during a round, the app reads your precise location continuously while that screen is open, in order to show the yardage. That reading stays on your phone — it is used to do the arithmetic and is never sent to us or saved.
- Voice recordings, if you use the voice setup assistant. While you hold the microphone button, the app records audio and sends it off your device to be turned into text (see the providers below). We do not keep the audio, and we do not turn the microphone on at any other time.
- Notification registration — if you turn notifications on, your browser gives us a delivery address for that specific phone, which we store so we can send you the three things LineScore sends: tee times going up, a round being signed off, and a friend of yours starting a round. That last one can be switched off on its own from your profile, and only people whose friend request you accepted can trigger it. Turning notifications off removes the registration entirely.
- Basic technical data — standard information your browser sends when loading the app (such as device type), used to keep the app running and secure.
- Error reports. When something in the app fails, a diagnostic report is sent off your device to Sentry, our error-monitoring provider, so the fault can be found and fixed. It carries the error, the screen it happened on, and your account’s internal id — never your email address, and never your scores or the amounts on your card.
- Which features get used. We record that a round was opened and which games it was set up with, so we know what people actually play. These records are counts and settings only: no names, no scores, no course names, and no money amounts. If you are only watching a round without an account, a random identifier is kept in your browser so that “opened the link” and “tapped sign up” can be counted as one visit; it identifies a device, not a person, and nothing else in the app refers to it.
Money. LineScore never processes, holds, or transfers money, and we never collect card numbers, bank account details, or any payment credentials. Amounts shown in the app are a record of what you and your friends have agreed between yourselves; settling up happens entirely outside LineScore, in your own payment app. The only payment-related thing we store is the handle described above, if you choose to add one.
We do not show ads, and we do not use third-party advertising or cross-site tracking.
How we use your information
- To run the app: sign you in, save your rounds, and sync live scoring to your group.
- To show leaderboards, player pages, and league standings to members of your communities.
- To keep the service secure and working correctly.
What others can see
LineScore is a shared, social app. When you join a community or play in an event, other members of that community can see your display name, handicap, scores, standings, and any messages you post there. Your email address is used for sign-in and is not shown to other players in normal use.
Who we share data with
We don’t sell your data. We use a small number of service providers to operate the app, and share only what’s needed for each to do its job:
- Supabase — secure database and sign-in (stores your account and golf data).
- Netlify — hosts and serves the app.
- Sentry — receives an error report when something in the app goes wrong, so we can fix it. The report carries the fault and your account’s internal id, never your email address and never your golf data.
- GolfCourseAPI — returns course scorecards for the terms you search.
- OpenStreetMap — provides nearby-course results for “Find courses near me.”
- Deepgram and OpenAI — turn a voice recording into text, when you use the voice setup assistant. The audio is sent to whichever of these is available and is not retained by us.
- Anthropic — reads the resulting text to work out what you asked for (“four players, skins at five dollars”), so the app can fill the setup in. Only the transcript is sent, never the audio.
- Apple and Google push services — deliver notifications to your phone, if you turn them on. They carry the message text but hold no other account data.
We may also disclose information if required by law.
Data storage & security
Your data is stored in our Supabase database, protected by row-level security so that access requires a signed-in account. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and limit access to what the app needs.
How long we keep things (retention and deletion)
- Your account and golf data — kept while your account exists, and removed when you delete it.
- Voice recordings — not kept. Audio is sent to be transcribed and discarded; only the text result reaches the app, and only for as long as the setup screen is open.
- Precise location — not kept. It is read on your phone to work out a yardage and is never sent to us.
- Notification registrations — kept until you turn notifications off on that phone, or delete your account.
- Error reports and usage records — error reports are held by Sentry under its own retention schedule and then deleted. Usage records are kept as counts, tied only to an internal account id that identifies nobody once your account is deleted.
- Finished rounds — a completed round is a shared record of everyone who played in it, so it is kept for the group even after one player leaves. Your name is removed from your profile; the card the four of you signed stays.
Your choices & rights
- Edit your info — update your name and handicap any time from your profile.
- Delete your account — from your profile, choose “Delete account.” This permanently removes your personal information and golf data and deletes your login. If you run a community, it is handed to another member so the league can continue.
- Turn off what you don’t want — location, microphone, and notifications are each optional, each asked for only when you first use the feature, and each revocable from your phone’s settings or from your LineScore profile. The rest of the app works without them.
- Access or export — contact us to request a copy of your data.
- Deleted the app already? — you can still ask us to delete your account and its data by emailing hello@linescore.golf from the address you signed up with.
Children
LineScore is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we’ll remove it.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we’ll update the date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
